About SJV Water

SJV Water is an independent, nonprofit news site dedicated to covering water in the San Joaquin Valley.

Water is a complex and crucial topic affecting every aspect of life in our valley.

Yet, most people can’t tell you where their water comes from and they have no clue how new regulations may affect their towns, their jobs or even their ability to keep a green lawn.

It’s our job to explain all that and more in an engaging, understandable way.

The site was formed and launched in 2019 by Lois Henry, a former reporter and editor at The Bakersfield Californian.

It is funded mainly by readers through subscriptions and donations as well as some grant funding.

Because of that, we are able to remain fiercely independent.

SJV Water is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News. We have tax exempt status from the IRS and are a registered charity with the California Department of Justice.

We hold a GOLD rating with Guidestar
